GENEROSITY:
A Christian husband should be open-handed. This quality will enable him to respond promptly to the needs of his wife and entire family. Women don’t like men that are tight-fisted. They expect their husbands to freely give them money to solve the financial needs of the home. So, don’t wait until your wealth is overflowing before you give; be generous with the little you have.
As helpful as generosity with money and other possessions may be, you must understand, as a man, that you ought to be generous with your time, encouragement, and compliments. Women like it when you create time for, encourage and compliment them.
Besides, it is expected of every godly man to help even non-family members. Such acts of kindness is lending to the LORD who will reward them in due time. The LORD JESUS Christ, during His earthly ministry, taught that good deeds done to others are actually done for HIM, “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”
Matthew 25:40 KJV.
A generous Christian husband has some sterling qualities:
1. He believes what is mine is yours. He is not highly possessive. He is willing to share what he has with his wife. He doesn’t keep his things from the reach of his wife.
2. Demonstrates altruism: He cares about the welfare of his spouse, family and people in general. Life for him is not just about him; he is not selfish. He is ready to spend time and money to give his spouse comfort, the good things of life and make her ready for Heaven.
3. He gives to give, he doesn’t give to get. He buys his wife something he knows she will like, with no thought about whether it will benefit him as well, and with no expectation that she will respond in kind.
4. Give not because he wants something. Though related to the previous points, it is slightly different. The Christian husband doesn’t give money, gift or something else to his wife because he wants something from her, perhaps a favour, sex, closeness or love. That kind of generosity is more like giving her a bribe to get what he wants or to get away with the wrong he has done. Rather, he gives because he loves and appreciated her dearly.
The underlying message of his generosity is, you are valuable, you are important, and I love you.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”
Psalms 133:1-3 KJV
