My darlings I had been in dire need of a getaway when my girl Isata put in the group “We should have a staycation” so I ran with it till we made it happen! My girls aren’t the type to say “we should” and never actualize and so in three weeks we put together a 3 night trip to the coastal town of England known as Cornwall and it was an absolute blast!
Britain isn’t yet open for international travel so we thought, where can we go in this country that could give us holiday vibes? We went through a couple Instagram Influencers’ travel posts and decided on Cornwall upon seeing how breathtakingly beautiful it is!
Day one – Friday 21st May:
Each of us had been counting down to this day, we’d opened a shared itinerary list on our phones’ Notes and checked off the things to pack – we were ready ready. We picked up our car rental and a few snacks then hit the road – only to find out that the car had a preset speed limit of 60 miles per hour.
We stopped on a hard shoulder to try to recalibrate it, watched Youtube videos on the car – nothing worked – so we called the organisation and pulled into the nearest rental where they checked it and couldn’t fix it, and so gave us a new car instead. But we had lost a chunk of time and got right into the thick of traffic! Nothing a good playlist and gisting couldn’t deal with though, and we stuck through what went from a 5 hour drive into 12 hours!! Isata is the realest MVP, she actually did the whole drive though we had planned to share it out (I really don’t like driving but I was willing to suck it up, so Isata doing the whole drive was a relief for me haha).
Upon our eventual arrival near the resort, we popped into the nearby tesco and got some groceries then pulled up at our lodge at 23:30 – after our initial excitement at how beautiful it was, Isata – the superwoman that had just driven 12 hours – decided to make us a midnight snack! This woman is phenomenal when it comes to energy!!
Saturday 22nd May:
The next morning I got everyone up nice and early because I had booked a session of WAKEBOARDING!! Bear in mind, I’ve never done this before, barely surfed and the closest board activity I’ve done for more than 10 minutes is skateboarding – back when I was 11! BUT – I was super stoked at the possibility of learning how to wakeboard and I took that energy with me. My girls of course, came to support and thoroughly laughed through my numerous failed attempts lool, but I got there in the end!
After a good clean down, the girls threw together a beautiful breakfast spread before we headed out to our first destination: Tintagel Castle!
We didn’t wear appropriate footwear and almost every other visitor made their disapproval of our slippers known in one way or another lol but we successfully completed the hike without a hitch!
Afterwards we got some Cornish Pastries and Cornish Ice-cream (both food items are made locally in Cornwall and they’re popular across the country) – they were actually so delicious!
We got back in and had a hot tub session when we played the friendship card game, which brought up really heartfelt memories, I’d highly recommend playing it with your good friends!
Popped out for a cute dinner at a boutique restaurant before playing a game of blackjack – which I am proud to say I won haha.
Sunday 23rd May:
The girls made me promise several times not to wake anyone up early after the morning before lool, so I joined service over zoom in the living room before everyone finallyyy got up and we made another beautiful breakfast spread – we had planned another outdoor activity but British weather said no with heavy downpour, so we went to the Eden Project instead!
The Eden Project is a humongous conservatory, with plants from all over the world. It was actually humid inside! Such an interesting experience.
From there we went to St Ives to have dinner at a Thai restaurant that came highly recommended by an elderly man who was exiting as we were hearing that the wait time was about 45 minutes or more, so we put our number down and played charades in the car – we’re rather competitive individuals so it made all our games that much more interesting haha. Time flew by and it was time for our dinner – which was actually delicious!
When we got home after dinner we played a game of articulate which Isata somehow won haha.
Monday 24th May:
It was time to check out! Having had so many beautiful memories, it was a bit of an emotional checkout which made us vow to each other that this was going to be our thing – traveling together! We’ve known each other for over 15 years, it’s been beautiful watching each of us go through different phases of our lives but somehow still being able to keep the friendship going; I cherish these women!
More pictures for completeness? You got ittt!
Till next time,
