Hi everyone, seems I’m late again. It’s another Mondays For Butterflies, I hope you guys enjoyed the first two episodes of the new KickOff page, I read it through to the end and I started questioning my own brilliance – I think I gotta ask the guy for some ‘football for dummies’ tutorial. So I’m writing today because this column might not come every Monday from now till November (maybe just every other Monday) this is because I have an hurdle to cross, a mountain to move if you will and it’s going to take all I got, don’t worry I’ll tell you about it when I succeed. And before I forget, Eid Mubarak to Muslim friends and readers of this blog, I haven’t eaten any ram yet and I’m hoping someone can rectify that lol.
I wrote a letter to the one who flew away;
Hey, I hope you’re fine where you are, and the weather? You mightn’t like it so much as your pointed nose behaves like a ticking time bomb, just waiting for the perfect opportunity. You always were the feisty and independent person I wish I could be, you never wore a label, none would have sat on you well. Remember when I told you that you were lukewarm because you never stood up to anything? You were very sad because you didn’t expect that from me, you told me it was simply because being a diplomat is what has helped you become the woman you are, while I was busy being the rebel and freedom fighter, you were using the opportunity of being away from the limelight to work on dreams that only you knew about. I know that now but I guess I was blind and jealous, blind because I didn’t see the beauty in stooping to conquer or working from the background and jealous because I’ve had to fight for everything while you just seemed to breeze through life unruffled, I’ve never seen your head leave your shoulders, not even when dad scorned you because of your course or when mom made you do all the work because I wanted to read, you just never let these things get to you, you’re the only person I’ve seen with such strong yet quiet personality that I often wondered what it was like to be you. You’ve successfully disappointed everyone who looked down on you and ignored you, thinking you wouldn’t do much and for that baby, I am proud.
Now the bird has flown the coup, it’s time to leave the nest and tour the skies in search of dreams and opportunities of gargantuan proportions, I always knew you wouldn’t stay, because connected by blood maybe, we’re meant for different things, great things that we can’t even begin to fathom, ask me how and I wouldn’t know. So this is my little ode to you;
Never be afraid of anything except fear itself;
Experience everything you can,
Never hold back on your dreams,
Conquer every quest you set out upon,
Do your best and then do more,
Love whomever you love,
Write from your heart, as long as it beats,
Never be afraid to let your voice be heard,
Be bold, be courageous,
And last but not the least, do not forget God and do not forget the house that built you.
Your darling Sister,
