So I’ve finally gotten around to sharing the main installment of my good news from the summer! To set the stage, I need to tell you where my head was at early summertime – I was very sad. I was being grossly undervalued at work and it was taking an unhealthy toll on my self-esteem. One day when a rather unfortunate event happened at work, I took all the negative energy that was hurled at me, focused it on updating my CV and I then sprayed numerous applications to various organizations. I didn’t apply to less than 20 places that day – I had had enough!
Sometimes your time is up in a place but you’ve gotten too comfortable so you postpone your move; it’s when adversity causes you inconvenience that you finally do the necessary – that was my situation. I did some interviews but I hadn’t any concrete roles in hand and things were going from bad to worse so I just had to resign – without knowing where I was going next. I just had to take a leap of faith and trusted God wholly.
And of course, God did it! It’s at this point that I think I have to say that our Boomer parents got it right – having a solid fall back career is always a good idea. It’s no secret that I don’t plan to practice medicine for the rest of my life, but as there are bills to be paid I still applied for medical work amidst my search for a more preferred role. The day after my notice period was up, I got a call asking me to resume a 2 month contracted medical role up in Scarborough. I was overjoyed! I may not like medicine that much but I sure can do it and I figured it will give me time to find a preferred role, whilst covering my expenses. Scarborough ended up giving me a lot more than that, but that’s a story for another day.
The next day (now day 2 since I left my former job) I was at my hairdresser’s place, in the midst of my French class (shoutout to Brenda Mande my personal French tutor who also gives me amazing advice and prays for me! She gave me a lot of ginger in this decision, so grateful for the faith she instilled in me), when I got a call from an unknown number.
Flash-back: I had been invited to an interview for a role that I had applied for that day I was shooting my CV almost everywhere and anywhere – I didn’t even remember applying to the organization! I was asked to make a presentation as part of the interview, so I had to go read about the organization, and then I searched on LinkedIn for people that worked there. I found a couple people but something drew me to a particular person and so I requested to connect and then asked for advice about my interview. This total stranger at the time, provided me with so much advice and support, I couldn’t believe it. She went above and beyond and I used her advice to make my presentation.
Back to my hairdresser’s place, day 2 of unemployment.
So I pick up the call and it’s the person that I had done the interview with – she was offering me the role! I was in absolute shock. 2 job offers in two days?! I actually told her I’d have to call her back to give my response because I was in disbelief. After dropping the call I lay flat on the ground and thanked my God because this could only be Him!
It’s been a little while since I resumed and it’s a beautiful role in a fantastic organization. It’s remote work directly in line with my chosen field of specialty, and it’s part time, so I can balance it with my masters healthily.
My Jesus worked it all out to absolute perfection. I give Him all the praise!
Nothing is too difficult for God – absolutely nothing, trust Him with that challenge today for His Word says – they that sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy!
Till next time,
Dr ETP xo
