LEARNING AND COVERING:
Welcome to the April edition of marriage and family life 2017.
Let us kick start from where we stopped last month, shall we 😀.
I said earlier that marriage is a growth experience characterised by Studying and Learning. The husband needs to learn many things about his wife. And the wife must patiently study the lifestyle, conduct, taste, habit and culture of her husband too. The Learning Process in marriage is pivotal to the success of the marriage. Some husbands allow their hobbies to take more of their time than their wives do.
Some spend more hours with their Television, social media or business partners than they spend with their wives. This stifles couple’s relationship and the wife may feel emotionally drained.
This attitude is wrong.
The husband and wife have many things to learn about one another. Your wife is not like any other woman you meet at College or High School or in the office for that matter. She is unique in every sense. She has her individual traits which must not be mistaken for any other woman’s.
So you need to take time off to learn and know her.
Your husband is also different from every other man on the face of the earth. He has his soft spots. His taste might be queer and that makes him stand out from other men. Both of you have a lot to learn. But there is something significant about this learning.
As you learn, you cover up your knowledge. You MUST never share your knowledge of your spouse with any other person, no matter how close he or she is to you or your spouse. Don’t expose your partner to the world. You could learn that your wife or husband is lazy, selfish, dirty, lacking proper decorum, wasteful in spending. Cover it up!
See yourself as the teacher and what you do during your learning process is compilation of a syllabus for family fellowship. All you learn about your wife / husband forms the body of that syllabus. You are the only person competent enough to handle your wife and take her through the syllabus successfully.
In the process of learning and trying to compile a syllabus, you might discover staggering things. Some of your discoveries might be outrageous. Don’t be irritated or over-excited to the point of going to share it with a friend. Don’t wonder whether this is how all women are. You should understand that every man has his own discoveries about his wife; but they never expose such to you.
Don’t expose yours to them.
The same principle goes for the wife. You learn and acquire knowledge of who your husband is, but don’t go to expose him. Cover it up! Your parents and friends could ask questions about him. Answer their questions but never tell them the faults you see in him. When you expose his faults, you bring shame upon him and by implication, upon yourself, because as you already know, you are one flesh. Don’t wash your dirty linen in public. What does God say about this in the Bible?
“Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.”
Proverbs 10:12 KJV
“He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.”
Proverbs 17:9 KJV
As you wade through the early years of marriage Learning and Cleaving, Loving and Caring the ultimate goal is the making of a wife or husband who worths his or her salt. The motivating factor is to make you the wife or husband of your dream. Your life, not your lips, should tell your spouse and neighbours that you are an accomplished wife or husband.
Who is an accomplished wife? Simply put, a woman whose life spells the word “wife”
W-Wise in communication
I-Industrious in caring, Innocent in Character
F-Faithful in companionship, Forgiving in conflict
